Oakville's Active Transportation Master Plan is underway as of the latter half of 2008. GreenTrans members are involved in the stakeholder consultations. Upcoming meeting announcements are being posted to our blog.

The five year transit service plan for 2008-2012 introduces a modified grid system to Oakville Transit. This plan has been approved by Council in principle, but some of the details have yet to be finalized. The plan will be implemented starting in September 2009.

presto — GTA fare card

Oakville is scheduled to be an early adopter of the new fare card technology, Presto, which will eventually be rolled out across the entire Greater Toronto Area. The program will be introduced to Oakville in stages, beginning in September 2009.

Oakville budget and 2009 fare increase

On Monday, December 1, 2008, Oakville Town Council approved the budget for 2009, including a 3.89% tax increase. The budget includes a fare increase effective January 1, 2009 (cash fare to be $3.00) and another potential fare increase to coincide with the introduction of the new transit service plan in September 2009. Otherwise, service has been maintained and no new service will be introduced before September. For discussion about the budget, visit our blog.

At long last, the Transportation Master Plan is ready. The plan will be presented at Planning & Development Council on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. If it gets the go-ahead, the plan will go out for a 30-day review period before coming back to Council for approval.

Oakville and Burlington will be early adopters of the new GTA Fare Card program. By 2010, one card will be used to pay for all travel on transit within the Greater Toronto Area. Other forms of payment, except cash, will be eliminated.
