summer fun bus day for kids
Summer Fun Bus Day for Kids was first held in July 2005 in Oakville.
About 130 people participated in the activities at the Oakville GO station.
More took advantage of the free buses for the day.
In 2006, Summer Fun Bus Day for Kids expanded to Burlington and events were held at the Oakville and Burlington GO stations. Due to station renovations in 2007, the event was moved to Sheridan College in Oakville. We were back at Sheridan College for 2008. In 2009, the event moved toOakville Place and a bike component was added. 2010 sees us back at Oakville Place for Summer Fun Bus and Bike Day. See below for descriptions from each year.
The main goal of Summer Fun Bus Day is to help families become comfortable
with the local public transit system. Taking the bus means fewer cars on the road, which means better air quality. This is especially important in Halton Region in the summer months.
Besides, kids enjoy taking the bus!

2008 event
wednesday, july 9
Summer Fun Bus Day for Kids was back at Sheridan College for a second year, with only a slight rainshower. New and popular attractions were GO Transit’s model railway safety village and an Oakville Transit bus parked for visiting, with a bike rack mounted on the front so that we could test it out. Many children tried out the bus horn! There were line-ups at the face painting and the shoebox bus makers were busy as usual. Free bus rides ran continuously all morning.
Colouring contest winning artwork is posted at right. Grand prize winners are Sydney, age 5, with the colourful bus at right, and Munazza, age 12, with a fabulous poster promoting transit, at the bottom of the artwork stack. Other prize winners, in order from top to bottom, are Cliona, age 10, Sheneice, age 8, Sydney, age 7, Emily, age 6, Katelyn, age 6, Rachel Rose, age 4, Lucas, age 3, and Rebecca, age 8, with a tranist poster. Many thanks to Panago Pizza, Oakville Transit, and Once Upon a Child for the prize donations!

Unfortunately, due to rain at the start of the day, GO Transit was unable to set up its safety village, but they’re sure to be back next year!
